Meet Sarah Arias Napoles
I am a registered clinical counsellor and psychotherapist. I have over 20 years of experience from working in mental and physical health settings in addition to previous work as a first responder. I enjoy working with adults, children and youth.
I have wanted to work in mental health and social justice since a very young age and have pursued careers and education to assist my efforts to serve many populations looking for support. I have a broad educational background that includes social work, child and youth care, and sociology in addition to psychology which has given me rich an understanding of integrative support for clients.
I believe in healing the whole body and have chosen to be guided by the approaches of cognitive behavioural therapy, acceptance and commitment therapy, IFS and often add in many aspects of both narrative therapy and somatic healing practices.
I uphold and work with a trauma informed approach and firmly believe that having a safe environment with a safe person is necessary for clients to start figuring out how to feel more in control of their thoughts, feelings and behaviour. I believe that it is in relationship that healing takes place.
I work collaboratively to support clients to establish and reach their goals by having a client centred, and culturally safe approach that recognizes that everyone comes to counselling with their own strengths which can be tapped into to invite change.
Areas of focus include:
I work with many adults who have been diagnosed with ADHD which also includes family members of those who have been diagnosed.
I work with survivors of narcissistic abuse which can include identifying and healing co-dependant behaviours.
As an ex first responder I know that relational experience is helpful in supporting first responders and their families which can include PTSD and suicide bereavement. I have been certified in occupational awareness training for PSP.
Other areas of supports include LGBTQ2+ individuals and their families, as well as clients experiencing anxiety, depression, trauma, stress, grief and loss.
I also offer couples or relationship counselling that includes parenting and other relationship struggles including support single and solo parents.
With gratitude, Sarah recognizes that her work is done on the traditional unceded territories of the Kwikwetlem, Musqueam, Squamish, Stó:lō and Tsleil-Waututh First Nations.
